Right-click drag-and-drop retext.py and select Create shortcuts here. Well, Smultron has this easy to use Tag completion shortcut (Command t) and today I was wondering how to do the same in Sublime. Navigate to the retext.py file (probably at c:\retext).Place the unpacked icons into the ReText\icons folder.Download and unpack current ReText (ATM 0.8.1).Select Start then Run, type cmd then cd \python27\scripts. Update the PATH variable value by adding C:\Python27 C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\bin to the front of the existing entries so that it reads like PATH=C:\Python27 C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\bin. Select the System Variable PATH click Edit.Under Variable value enter C:\Python27\Lib\ C:\Python27\Lib\site-packages\ Click Start, right-click My Computer and select Properties, select the Advanced tab, then click Environment Variables. Update your My Computer's Environmental Variables. It is written in Python using Qt libraries, able to run on any platforms (Linux and BSD are officially supported)Īlthough not officially supported, there are Windows installation instructions as well however, I had to make a few modifications to get them to work (the complete set with my corrections is shown below): Installation ReText is a simple text editor for Markdown syntax. ReText is available for other platforms and offers a live preview of rendered Markdown: MarkdownPad is for Windows, but provides live preview. The preview is updated when you save the text file. But at $10 from the Mac App Store or the same price in the Smultron store which also offers a cheaper upgrade and a more expensive site license, the program is very affordable.Mac only, Marked provides markdown and multi-markdown preview for any text editor. Many developers will find those missing features and unusual commands more irritating than helpful. The learning curve is short: there just aren’t enough additional commands to make the learning too onerous but Smultron does demand an effort from the user that might make them wonder whether it’s worth making. You will need to include some unique codes to obtain the full path of the directory or the document or to replace the text with a path to a temporary file or to a writeable temporary directory. Smultron will also run commands and can insert the result into the text. This tries to find the correct tag to close by calculating the number of tags. There is at least a preview feature and users can choose whether to open the page in the program or choose a separate app. Smultron is a text editor for Mac to create or edit any text document. While other text editors build in FTP tabs for easy uploading, Smultron settles for support for document storage in iCloud. Even the close tag feature, a basic element to minimize errors in other text editors, only closes tags surrounded by, and struggles to find the right tag to close. Or at least relative ease, because code replacement is conducted by including a %%s in the text while a %%c will put the cursor after the snippet. ![]() Another feature included in the program provides snippets of frequently-used text to be added with ease. Viewing can be simplified by folding up text you don’t want to see. A Compare feature found in a Tools menu lets you bring up two open documents with changes marked and little symbols indicating whether a line has been added, deleted or changed. Syntax colors are available for a huge number of code languages, regular expressions, commands, text snippets, and other elements. Instead of packing the coding environment with features designed to put all the tools a developer might use within easy reach, Smultron throws away the tools and gives coders a sheet of paper. Smultron delivers exactly that stripped-down, basic coding service. That’s what they say they want, until they get it. So as I type HTML, I can just hit Cmd-T to close. They want the minimum of features, just a place to write their own lines without the interference of a smart program that thinks it knows code better than they do. Smultron is simple and easy, and has a handy 'close tag' menu (which TextWrangler may very well have as well, but I can't seem to find it). Developers often say that they want their coding environment to be as simple and clean as possible. Sometimes, you should be careful what you wish for. ![]()
